One of the many Meadow Pipits
Shoveler pair
Redshank on main spit
Early start at Pophills
A long weekend off work enabled me to visit four consecutive days over the weekend. Sadly the visits didn't result in anything to get the pulse racing once again.
Sunday proved to be the best day with 600 Meadow Pipits grounded in the over night rain with over 300 being in the Snipe meadow. Three Golden Plover, a pair and a single bird, past over us whilst crossing over from Pophills.
A Redshank came in to land on the main pit after circling a couple of times to join the Greenshank. Other sightings included 39 Little Grebe, 15 Cormorant, 3 Grey Heron, 16 Mute Swan, 3 Greylag, 63 Canada Geese, 1 Wigeon, 5 Gadwall, 61 Teal, 245 Mallard, 7 Shoveler, 48 Tufted Duck, 3 Sparrowhawk, 9 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 1000 Red-legged Partridge, 3 Water Rail, 150 Coot, 5 Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 6 Green Woodpecker, 80 Skylark, 55 Swallow, 2 Grey Wagtail, 12 Song Thrush, 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 7 Chiffchaff, 3 Jays, 3 Ravens, 13 Siskins south, 80 Goldfinch and 25 Reed Bunting.
The species we were expecting to see for the the last two week were Stonechat's given their movement and reports elsewhere locally however it remains a definite absence from my patch list of 2016.
