Half year position
Salford Priors GP (Patch Challenge)
By the end of June last year we had reached a total of 114 species and 128 points, this year I currently stand 122 with 136 points. Species still missing are Mediterranean Gull, Red-crested Pochard, Rock Pipit, Scaup, Spotted Redshank, Stonechat, Whinchat, Little Stint & Ruff, a good autumn could well lead to a record return.
The highlights of the year are most definitely two winter Brambling, a Firecrest, Brent Goose, Whimbrel, Marsh Harrier, Black-necked Grebe, Ring Ouzel, six Turnstones, a Short-eared Owl and four Black Terns.
Life List Target species
From my twenty must see species I managed to see White-tailed Eagle, Corncrake & Great Spotted Cuckoo to date. There certainly remains the possibility of a couple more given favourable conditions and with trips booked to Cornwall for a pelagic & Norfolk for three nights in October.
Life List Additional species seen
These have been Serin, Pallas Warbler, Hooded Meganser, Iberian Chiffchaff, Kentish Plover, Squacco Heron, Red-rumped Swallow, White Stork, Broad-billed Sandpiper & the Great Knot.
