Great White Egret over
Song Thrush
I fancied one more
trip off island before heading home so when housemate Adam thought he heard a Catulana
Lark it seemed like everyone decided to head to Tresco on the off chance it could be
found.
Before heading off for
the boat the Great White Egret flew over me when at Porth Loo whilst watching a
Rose-coloured Starling feeding on the beach. Sadly, too distant for images.
Once landed on Tesco
the regular Spoonbills could be seen over on the edge of Sampson. On Abbey Pool
we recorded two Pintail, Teal & Gadwall. On the edge of the Great Pool
there were two Snipe and a Wood Sandpiper, a Scilly first for us.
Two Yellow-browed Warbler
flitted around above us as we started a circular route taking in a range of
habitats. The Surf Scoter which had eluded us all week was picked up at long
range after being flushed by some dolphins towards St Martins.
There was a
significant increase in Redwings & Fieldfares around the island probably
trying to move in ahead of the system.
We recorded another
new Scilly species when we observed a Cattle Egret on the north end of Great
Pool also present were 6 Greenshank & 7 Redshank. Two Pochard fed in the
centre of the pool.
We added a Whooper
Swan back on Abbey Pool, 6 Little Egret, the same Cattle Egret & 3 Common
Gull.
On the journey back we
noted three Spoonbil, a Kittiwake & two Mediterranean Gulls.
