Sighting Boards

As we edge towards the annual reviews of best birds of the year and best finds on patch I do find it frustrating that sighting boards are not updated daily. Some of these large reserves get it done to perfection such as @RSPBNorfolkLinc who even post a map on social media to regular followers and potential visitors.

Given how competitive it is to attract visitors a little time spend updating these boards goes a long way. Young people engage with social media and as well as proving a useful tool to inform customers it gives the reserve an opportunity to sell other services such as guides walks, items in shop, café. Whilst a great number of staff are voluntary in reserves those greeting birders need to be trained with a minimum level of birding knowledge to be taken seriously by the visitors.
In 2016 I’m going to post images of sightings boards on my travels, so if you see any please snap an image and forward it me by email or Twitter. Let’s show our appreciation for those places who get it right !
