Since I commenced birding seriously Shore Lark is a species I've been very keen to catch up with however wintering populations have fallen dramatically mirroring the Fennoscandian population so there hasn't really been an opportunity to see him. With three reported close to the Pallid Harrier site in Thornham Harbour it was well worth an attempt. I'd never actually been to the harbour before and from the car park you head towards the coast with Holme on your left hand side and turn right at the dunes and then head towards the mouth of the estuary.

Shore Larks are very charismatic birds and they were quite happy to go about their feeding along the estuary shoreline with a captive audience (all 7 of us). I was expecting they would be quite dull in their appearance however their yellow faces were still very bright. The wind was really whistling at this stage so digiscoping was difficult but did manage as best as I could.

Heading back to the car we found 6 Twite feeding low along one the channels close to the path which was a brilliant year tick.
