Winter Waxwings and a disappearing Black-throated Thrush

Friday afternoon brought some difficult news on the work front but also news a Black-throated Thrush had been seen in At Asaph, North Wales. With myself and the Squire already committed to a days birding we decided to try out our luck up the M6.

Seven miles outside the village positive news was reported however when we met Alan Davies on the bridge he reported the bird was seen for just a few seconds in the hedgerow before taking flight. Hoping the bird would return we set up camp and tried our best to scan hedgerows, tree top and the fields, all with no luck. Vast amounts Redwings were present to keep us on our toes and local footballers certainly found it funny how 50 people were looking a Thrush.

Cutting our losses we crossed the river to our car where we had lunch whilst enjoying a flock of 51 Waxwings. The birds sat high in their customary punky looking style before taking it in turn to test whether it was clear to land on the berries by the car park. I managed to get a few records shots before we headed north to the coast.
