Day 8

Heavy mist and rain greeted us when we woke and it seemed most birders had given up after a good week. We did a decent circuit in very gloomy & wet conditions but failed to see the ever illusive Red-back Shrike. There were a few more Crests but to be honest very hard work. A Great Northern Diver in the afternoon at Porthcressa made the afternoon go slightly quicker but weather continued to be bleak.

Day 9

Nightingale gave itself up for cracking views on our final morning. Thankfully the wind eased letting us fly off the island within an hour of our scheduled time.

Many thanks all the team for a great week. Paul Freestone does a great job as captain and special thanks to Squire for his driving to Cornwall & back. For those who kindly send me photos I have put names in brackets on each image.

You can read a lot about the cost of visiting the Scillies so I did make a note for reference what the eight day break cost.

Petrol contribution £25

Airport Parking £27

Flight £195 (Normally sail but upgraded due to weather)

House share £120

Island boats £24

Total :- £391 for eight nights / works out to £48.87 a day (pretty good in terms of great selection of birds seen including one absolute mega which is probably the rarest bird I've ever seen.

We ate in most evenings at around a cost of £3.00 each and also dined at the Atlantic twice £12-£18 for main course and has fish & chips another evening £8.00.
