Black Hairstreak at Glapthorn Cow Pastures

Dull overcast conditions with heavy showers forecast wasn't ideal as I met up with Butterfly Dave at the services and followed him across to the east midlands. Dave was confident that even though we just had one spell of sunshine we would be able to see the rare Black Hairstreak.

Our destination was Glapthorn Cow Pastures, a small stunning reserve, where this butterfly continues to thrive. It was a slow start with the temperature being slow to rise despite it being warmer in the wood. As the first glint of sunshine emerged the first Hairstreak flew aggresivley towards the tops of the trees.

With some persistant watching from us all some fabulous photography opportunities emerging allowing them to become my 48 UK butterfly to be photographed. A another cracking morning and it was all the sweeter that we had defied the weather.
